The International GCSE is organised by the University of Cambridge. It culminates in a series of external examinations taken at the end of Year 11. Exams are graded on a scale from A* (highest) to G (lowest passing grade) and examine not only what a student knows but also how knowledge can be applied. The IGCSE is equivalent to GCSE (formerly ‘O’ level) in the UK and Form 12 in Zambia. IGCSE assessment rewards positive achievement from both public examinations and internally assessed work. Details of the subjects taught are available from the school office. Further information is available on the Internet at www.cie.org.uk.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) and 'A' LEVELSEducation at LICS finishes at Year 11. The school has chosen deliberately to concentrate on offering the best possible education up to International GCSE. For the last two years of secondary school, students can apply to take IB or ‘A’ levels at other schools in Lusaka or elsewhere. For some schools in Lusaka, the registration fee is waived for students who have completed Year 11 at LICS. Please enquire for details. Several teachers at LICS have extensive knowledge of these programmes and would be very happy to advise parents.
EXAMINATION SUCCESSLICS has been teaching the International GCSE since 2000. Our results have steadily improved during that time. These figures are not for a selective intake: true to LICS’ philosophy, the cohort of students entering the examination covers the full range of academic ability including those with identified learning support needs.
