PHILOSOPHY
LICS is a secular,
non-political, non-profit-making school owned by the parents. We aim to
meet the academic, physical, pastoral and social needs of our students
by providing them with an all-round education. We seek to maximise individual
attention for all students through our small class sizes, differentiated
teaching and the Learning Support programme. LICS encourages the widest
possible involvement of all nationalities and creeds and promotes respect
for and pride in Zambia. It is important that our students, teachers,
staff and parents feel themselves part of a lively and caring community.

TEACHERS AND
STUDENTS
LICS teachers
are international. Amongst other countries, they come from the UK, South
Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, France, India, DRC
and Germany. The majority have experience of the UK educational system
which forms the basis of the LICS curriculum.
In 2011, the
number of students has reached 450, and we expect to keep
on growing. LICS students represent more than 33 nationalities, of which
the largest groups are Zambian and British. Many of our families are based
in Zambia long-term, which gives the school population a significant stability.
LICS also welcomes the children of parents in Zambia for a shorter time
and ensures continuity when they join, and again when they leave to other
schools around the world. We specialise in placing students in
January who come to us from Southern Hemisphere academic calendars.

STUDENT BEHAVIOUR
LICS is proud
of its student body and requires that all students strive to meet their
full academic and social potential. The school encourages a high standard
of behaviour. All students are issued with the Code of Conduct which is
based on the principles of respect, tolerance and safety. Students are
expected to behave, both in and out of school, in a manner that will bring
respect and honour to their country of origin and to the school.

LEARNING SUPPORT
LICS has devoted
a lot of work and thought to the Learning Support programme. The department
employs three full-time staff who have particular specialisms in different
areas of academic support throughout the school (including English as
a Second Language and Educational Psychology). Each student with a Learning
Support need is offered an Individualised Educational Programme (IEP).
