Physical Education

The aim of the Co-Curricular sporting programme at LICS is to allow students to develop and hone their sporting prowess in one of five key competitive sporting areas namely; Swimming, Field Hockey, Basketball, Football and Netball. Development sports include Golf, Tennis, Cricket and Rugby.

Students are exposed to a very high standard of coaching during all training sessions. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to represent the school locally, nationally & internationally.

We pride ourselves on our low class sizes and high student to teacher ratios during all lessons and activities. Currently, LICS provides over 100 hours of extra-curricular sports provision each week.

There is a newly installed AstroTurf area which is floodlit, providing for Hockey/Football and wet weather training areas during the rainy season. LICS is the first school in the province to have its own AstroTurf. The school has a 25m five-lane, heated swimming pool complete with diving blocks and a 10m learning pool. The school is currently undergoing a phase of redevelopment, which will see a new multipurpose hall constructed.

The sporting programme is co-dependent on the Physical Education syllabus, which develops a child’s fundamental movement patterns and provides them with a solid base for athletic performance. Each child throughout the school receives two Physical Education lessons per week. One lesson is dedicated to aquatic skill development.

LICS offers Cambridge IGCSE Physical Education in Years 10 & 11. The course is very popular and students obtain good grades.

LICS is a SportsLeaders UK registered centre. Students are put through the Young Leader Award as part of their studies during Key Stage Three.

More information on our Sporting programme can be found in the Primary and Secondary school sections.
