Women all around the globe are celebrated on the 8th of March every year. LICS is an exceptional International School with majority of our staff and teachers being female, with this, we celebrated our Women in style. The theme for this Years’ Woman’s Day as per International Women’s Day (IWD) was “Breaking the Bias” and in Zambia the theme was “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”.
At LICS we merged the two themes to become “Break the Bias – For Gender Equality Today”. The theme evoked different views from different Women across our school community.
Ms Tiziana Marietta the Board Chair encourages women to “Today and always believe in yourself, break the bias and watch as the world begins to believe in you! It starts with us.”
Ms Yanga our Bursar believes in “Girl children should know that they can be and do anything they want to without being judged by society”. Society plays a major role in the up bringing of children and standing out is seen as going against all odds. Ms Yanga encourages women “it’s ok” to step out become the woman you always wanted to be.
Ms Ms Olipa Sakala Mulundu Head of Science Department Secondary School urges Women not only to speak but “Step up and act”.
The sports department has a mixture of gender and Ms Janet has learnt to be “patient and promoting open mindedness” towards teaching learners and being able to work in a department which is known to be for men.
Our operations department ensures that the school is always in good condition. Ms Ndinga emphasizes that the department has “maintained a healthy and productive work force, hiring well balanced ageism and gender equality with capable women leading to good, confident work performance”.
LICS Women celebrated the day by dressing up in black and white with a dash of purple and each woman received a delicious pack of home baked cookies prepared by African Butterfly. To all the Women Happy Woman’s Day and always aim high #BreaktheBias .
